project #9 concentful interface
Describe your design process. Include your flowchart and
sketches
I started by sketching everything out on procreate. I had both
the F.R.I.E.S model and the flowchart examples in front of me
when I did this. I designed back to front, starting with the
camera and tracing my steps back to understand what needed to be
asked to get there.
A description for your consentful interface. What are you trying
to accomplish?
I wanted to be very clear and up front, giving people the
opportunity to change their mind as they received new
information was my main goal. To achieve this I added multiple
pages, each giving more details that needed to be accepted
before reaching the camera. I also wanted people who did not
feel comfortable being on camera to have a positive experience,
so I included a fun page that the user would be brought to if
they dissented as well.
Your overall reflection on the assignment:How does your design
respond to F.R.I.E.S.?
I enjoyed this assignment, it was more based in design than in
difficult coding concepts. I really focused on incorporating all
aspects of the fries model as consent and the ways to make it
fully realized is a passion of mine. The area where I most
struggled was when trying to meld my interface with the actual
camera. I ended up having to alter my model a little bit to
allow the code to run, which took away the button that allowed
the user to return to the main menu at any time (something that
made the consent more reversible, so this was not ideal).
How did your consentful interface recontextualized user
interaction and experience?
I like that this interface gives context to the artwork. It
makes me a lot more comfortable to be notified and agree
whenever I am going to be on camera. Having a webcam activate
suddenly is incredibly disconcerting so I love that we were able
to incorporate the consentful interface into our project. I am
also grateful that this topic is being broached within the class
as a whole because it is such an important conversation for
everyone to engage in.
